Community Services
Primary chapters in New Brunswick support community services: food banks, nursing homes, women's shelters, women's crisis centres, homeless shelters, soup kitchens and veterans' homes. They contribute food to school food programs and supported National Funds, like Snack Pack and Disaster Fund. In 2013, in partnership with the Delta Brunswick Hotel, chapters raised more than $20,000.00. for the provincial neonatal unit.

IODE New Brunswick Disaster Fund
IIODE New Brunswick has a disaster fund which helps communities in times of need. Most recently, we used our fund to purchase shelving, tables, art supplies, books and other equipment to replace supplies lost in a flood at the Perth/Andover library. IODE chapters from New Brunswick and across Canada also helped. The IODE Canada Disaster Fund sent assistance as well for a total of close to $9000.00.
The previous year the IODE National Disaster Fund purchased gift certificates from Kent Building Supplies to help families in the St. George area who were affected by a pre-Christmas flood. Our Provincial Treasurer delivered the gift cards on Christmas Eve. Portage
Portage is a treatment centre for adolescents with drug and alcohol problems and an open custody facility for young offenders. IODE New Brunswick and individual primary chapters have supported it since the beginning. IODE New Brunswick has helped rebuild the playing field, purchased magazine subscriptions, art supplies, calculators, Christmas stockings and Easter treats.
Cent-A-Meal
Each summer IODE members across New Brunswick donate a "cent-a-meal" to IODE and these funds are used to support programs at the Isaac Walton Killam Children's Health Centre.
Shipping to Northern Communities
IODE New Brunswick has been assisting communities in Labrador for many years. Layettes, personal grooming bags, children's and adult clothing were sent to nursing stations. They were for clients of the nursing stations who came unexpectedly from distant communities. As the role of nursing stations changed IODE New Brunswick changed.
This year support was given to an Early Childhood Education Centre in Nunavut. Baby clothes and supplies were sent. Quilting supplies and other sewing materials were also sent along with larger size baby clothes. |
